RioFonehack Experience
Open year round
Corner of Clipper House, overlooking the River Lea
Free
Created by ZU-UK, the experience is an audio journey that is part meditation and part exploration of memory and distance.
Three iconic phone boxes from Rio were hacked and developed by ZU-UK with artists Nacho and Xurde Durán. Phones ring as visitors walked past. Visitors pick up the phones to hear one of three fictional Brazilian artists, who interacted with individual visitors via keypad and other sensors including pulse, motion and voice, driven by the open source computer kit Arduino.
The first phone was a five minute ‘Brazilification’, the second a meditation on the flow of River Lea’s waters, and the third a research in memory and distance.
