What is Open House?

Every year, Trinity Buoy Wharf opens its doors to the general public as part of Open House event, providing a chance to see and explore architecture and art in our unique riverside location.

For the past three decades, Open City has put on the Open House Festival celebrating London’s architecture and urban landscape, featuring a rich mix of events, tours and building openings, reconnecting us with the city we’ve been locked out of for months.

Andrew Baldwin's kinetic sculpture show

11am- 4pm both days, free entry

See Andrew's sculptures come to life and meet the artist both days. Andrew Baldwin trained as a Master Blacksmith and Welder and worked as such for 28 years. His interest in Victorian engineering, his limitless imagination and his aptitude for working metal are what motivates him to create his mechanical sculptures.

Meet Typewriter Artist, James Cook

11am- 4pm both days, free entry

Booking: not required

James Cook is a British artist that creates drawings using old typewriters. As part of his recent project involving typing scenes on location, he recently visited Trinity Buoy Wharf to type the view from the Lighthouse. See the finished artwork of the view from the Lighthouse and meet the artist 11am- 4pm both days. James will be working on various smaller artworks during the weekend, allowing you to see how his artworks are created

Visit the only Lighthouse in London

11am- 4pm both days, free entry

Booking: not required

Built in 1864, the Lighthouse was used to experiment and develop lighting equipment for the Trinity House network of lighthouses, lightships and buoys. It was the place where the scientist Michael Faraday conducted his optical experiments, and was also a vital resource for the training of lighthouse personnel.

The London Cloth Company

11am- 4pm both days, free entry

Visit our Artist in Residence Daniel Harris of London Cloth Company at his Trinity Buoy Wharf studio to see a completely self-contained, vertical garment production line, where Daniel has been weaving, washing, cutting and sewing 100 garments entirely on site.

This pop-up factory will be a display of perpetual activity making it a fun and engaging, inspiring and educational experience for visitors, encouraging people to think more carefully about how clothing is made, where it comes from and the impact it has on the world.

"Londoners": sculpture exhibition by Bart Janssen

11am- 4pm both days, free entry

See Bart Janssen's outdoor sculpture exhibition.

Bart is a figurative sculptor mainly focusing on portraits. He sculpts from life- he hires or invites models to the studio and sculpts them in clay. For a portrait this typically requires 20 hours of posing. Clay sculptures are subsequently moulded and often bronze casts are made. He is interested in representing people which have not been represented frequently in classical sculpture, eg, people of different ethnicity.

Visit Maud Milton at her Trinity Buoy Wharf studio.

Artyface was founded by Maud Milton in 1999 to provide high quality, legacy public art. Community involvement is integral to their projects: they work with 4000 + people per year, bringing people of all ages and abilities together to create art that can be enjoyed for generations to come.

Artyface works with schools, councils, businesses and the community to make murals, specialising in mosaics and ceramics. Maud is passionate about running inter-generational, multi-cultural inclusive workshops to make art that is accessible and open continuously to all, free of charge. Their projects on the streets of London look as good today as the first day they went up more than 15 years ago, and provide daily inspiration and access to art to all passers-by, enhancing daily life and bringing beauty to all.

Visit 3D Designer and Artist, Amanda Cotton, at her Trinity Buoy Wharf studio.

Amanda's work encourages us to question the preconceptions we allow to impact our everyday lives. Her ‘Body of Work’ gained International acclaim and her recent commission, 'Inexorable; Anne Bonny & Mary Read', created headlines celebrating these 17th-century true life female pirates. Her current project, 'We 100 Project', a collection of public sculptures examining body image and self esteem, will be on display at her Open Studio. You will see some of the 100 pieces in production and even participate in the creation of the latest edition.
