Bart Janssen

Bart is a figurative sculptor mainly focusing on portraits. He sculpts from life- he hires or invites models to the studio and sculpts them in clay. For a portrait this typically requires 20 hours of posing.

Clay sculptures are subsequently moulded and often bronze casts are made. He is interested in representing people which have not been represented frequently in classical sculpture, eg, people of different ethnicity.

Currently, He is working on a series called “Londoners”, which are portraits of homeless Londoners. He has done three so far and intends to make a dozen. He roams the streets of London to find suitably models.
