‘Gum Art’

Art trail inspired by discarded chewing gum.

Confirming that ‘beauty is really in the eye of the beholder’ Artist ben Wilson has recently completed an unusual art trail inspired by discarded chewing gum!

Creating mini paintings on the existing chewing gum on London’s street, Ben has created a fascinating trail from East India DLR down to Trinity Buoy Wharf – a new and interesting way to fing your way here!

For the last nine years Ben has tirelessly produced thousands of miniature paintings on litter including plastic bottles, cans and other street detritus. This work is all about interaction of the people that Ben meets, who sometimes request him to do a gum piece specifically for them, sharing of the experiences and the hopes of both individuals and groups of ordinary people. This trail will fascinate young and old alike, as they seek out these sometimes elusive works of art, that are also making a statement about careless disposal of waste products in the environment and truly ‘making silk purses out of sows ears.’

Ben has been featured in Germany’s leading weekly magazine Die Stern, The New York Times and on TV shows in South Korea, Italy and the UK http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-11677462

Art trail is now visible from East India DLR to Trinity Buoy Wharf.
