Sub Series and Slugmarines
Located by the Orchard Café and the Lightship
David Snoo Wilson’s practice involves the observing and satirising of defunct and outmoded military and cultural models, showing the redundancy of the old tools of stalemated war by re–evaluating what they have now come to represent.
The decline of British sea power is today characterised by a symbolic Trident supremacy, rolled out on the edges of theatres of war, this impotency encapsulated in the flacid Darwinian crawl of Wilson’s cast bronze Slugmarines, mounted on the edge of the wharf wall.
The reclaimed raw materials of Sub series are transformed by burning and welding old metal gas canisters, metamorphosised into denizens of the deep, often epitaphs for those trapped below.
