Urban Space ManagementUSM has been at the forefront of urban regeneration for over 40 years, both as a developer and manager. USM specialises in the creation of new locations, concentrating on building up a mix of uses including workspace, arts, retail, catering, sports and entertainment. This is attained with creative use of funds and the re-use and revitalisation of existing buildings, with the provision of new cost effective buildings. Another speciality is the encouragement of small businesses within an active management regime. USM works with all sectors including private, public and voluntary. USM is particularly well known for creating interesting and distinctive locations from scratch including Camden Lock Market in 1973 and Spitalfields Old Fruit & Vegetable Market in 1991. We took over the failing Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre in 1991 and rejuvenated it. We built Gabriel's Wharf and created Merton Abbey Mills - both in 1989. In 1994 we built the futuristic Market Hall in Swindon and managed to famous Greenwich Market until January 2010. We currently run projects in Docklands, Chelsea, Elephant & Castle, and Gravesend. More recently we have become well known for the innovative Container City Construction system which uses recycled shipping to containers to create buildings for a wide range of uses and successfully used the system to create over 40 projects throughout the UK, most recently including the award winning Dunraven School Sports Hall and the first completed building on the Stratford Olympic site - The View Tube. USM is transforming Trinity Buoy Wharf from an abandoned site to a flourishing centre for creative endeavour, and is well on the road with exciting plans for the future. |
