At Trinity Buoy Wharf we have the amenities and facilities to enrich aspects of the National Curriculum through Science, History, Geography and Art and Design.

Having examined the National Curriculum Guidelines and the QCA documents any educational visits / activities on site will support objectives at key stages 1, 2 and 3.

Technology

Supports QCA documents: Unit 1D Homes / Unit 6A Shelters

Children can explore Container City I, II and III (The Riverside Building) and assess them as live / work environments and office / commercial environments.

The Container City buildings can also be examined as a new form and structure and the techniques for reinforcing and strengthening them can be shown to support the children's own designs and final model structures.

Art & Design

Trinity Buoy Wharf boasts spectacular views of the River Thames, Millennium Dome and Docklands. It is home to an eclectic mix of buildings ranging from those of unique modern design to those of great historical significance that date back as far 1836, including London's only Lighthouse . The site offers a great deal to observe and sketch from many viewpoints and levels.

History

Trinity Buoy Wharf dates back to 1803. The site is an excellent resource when exploring areas in your school's locality. A site that is steeped in history whilst also offering the chance to view unique modern architecture, and explore what the future holds in the local area.

Trinity Buoy Wharf can also offer the chance to enter London's only Lighthouse and see where the famous scientist Michael Faraday conducted his experiments in the middle third of the nineteenth century.

Science

Supports QCA documents: Unit 3C / Unit 9I

Trinity Buoy Wharf is awaiting the arrival of The Eoliannne Bollee. This is a historic wind engine that is currently being restored so that it can be used to provide water pumping to a heat exchange.

All three of the Container City projects on site are also excellent examples of how many different materials are used in an an eco friendly and inexpensive way.

Geography

Trinity Buoy Wharf is situated on the banks of the River Thames at the mouth of the River Lea and has its own Pier equipped with classrooms where experiments and observations can take place. This makes the ideal place for historical talks and background information on events that have affected the River and the local area.
